360Hero Gimbal
This is a proposed design for a gimbal to hold one of these crazy 360hero GoPro arrays.
You'd think a 360 array wouldn't need to be mounted on a gimbal (you're shooting in every direction, after all), but when the horizon shifts the image stitching starts to show seams. So I started to imagine a gimbal that would hold this array suspended a foot or two below a hex or octa (the cameras have to be as far away from the drone as possible to minimize its size in the field of view). It would have to have a counterweight sticking up the other side, either of equal weight at an equal distance, or lighter and further away. And ideally, both ends will have the same aerodynamic drag so as not to tax the gimbal motors in flight.
Yes I know those bolts are in backwards and you can't access the heads. Glad I caught that before sending the file off.
This isn't for me, so I really hope I get the green light to build this for real. It'd start with a 450ish quad with just one GoPro, and if that works it'll step up to the full array of seven. It's sure to be one of the strangest looking quads ever.
